Across the Lower 48, no time of the year is better for a trip to the mountains for leaf-peeping than early to mid-October. And this year’s display of fall color across at some of our higher elevations has been nothing short of spectacular.

The above video, captured by a drone, reveals a magnificent display of autumn color in Vermont one week ago, Oct. 7.

While foliage has past peak at elevations above 3,000 feet from the central Rockies to the central Appalachians and points north, prime color can still be observed at lower elevations in the north (Northeast U.S., Upper Midwest, and Great Lakes) and at high elevations in the south (Arizona, New Mexico, Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina).

Let’s take a trip across the county to view some of the beautiful mountain foliage scenes from the past two weeks…

North of Flagstaff, altitude 9,000 feet…
